At least six Sunni mosques have been damaged in the aftermath of the yesterday’s bombing at the golden mosque in Samarra, Iraq. The mosque is a sacred Shiite gathering place. Thousands of angry Shiite Muslims protested. The bombing is in Eastern Baghdad, S City neighborhood. U.S. believes yesterday’s bombing was an inside job. 15 members of Iraq security forces have been arrested.
Violence continue to escalate between Hamas and Fatah militants in Gaza. Earlier today, Hamas fighters seized control of several key Fatah security installations, however, a Hamas spokesman says the effort is not a play for control of the government. Palestinian authority president Mahmoud Abbas is expected to make a major announcement regarding the government’s future.
The hunt is on for the suspect in a deadly shooting outside a shopping mall in Columbia, South Carolina. Police say a woman and her father were gunned down yesterday in a parking lot by a man accused of stalking the woman. She survived but her father was shot several times and died. Michael Young Junior had been arrested earlier this month and charged with stalking. He was free on bond. Police say Young was last seen driving a green Honda Accord.
In Montana, two escaped prison inmates are in police custody today after six days on the run. One of the escapees , Kelly Frank, was once accused of plotting to kidnap David Letterman’s infant son. Kelly was arrested near a house owned by a relative of the other fugitive, William Willcutt, a SWAT team arrested Willcutt several hours' later.
At Virginia Tech today, Norris Hall, the building where most of the shootings happened, will be open to the media. It has been closed since the tragedy April 16th. The school will use it for offices and research, but classes will never be held there again.
