Hello, I'm Melissa Long here at the cnn Center in Atlanta with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

President Bush is expected to pull out his veto pen to reject a new stem cell bill. It passed in the House and Senate with an ample number of votes but not enough to override a veto. The legislation would have loosened restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. President Bush's plan calls on federal agencies to support research that does not destroy human embryos while gathering stem cells.

DNA testing should determine whether a new-born girl belongs to a missing Ohio woman. The baby was found in a basket outside a nurse's home, 45 miles from where Jessie Davis disappeared. A sheriff's deputy says the infant is in good condition. The county has temporary custody of her. The nurse who found her says she does not believe the baby belongs to Davis.

Huge fire erupted this morning in Philadelphia's west Kensington section. That fire started in an abandoned warehouse. It spread to nearby rowhouses and cars. Two fire fighters had to be treated for heat exposure. About 100 people were evacuated. No word yet on what caused that fire.

Fire fighters are battling several wildfires in the west. In Colorado three fires have combined to burn 2,000 acres. The biggest is 160 miles west of Denver. It forced people to evacuate 90 homes. Officials believe lightning strikes sparked all three.

In northern San Diego crews are getting ground on a 12-acre fire burning through a brush-filled canyon below a residential neighbourhood. No injuries or damages have been reported. The cause of that fire also under investigation today.

And one of the world's most active volcanoes has shut down part of a park on Hawaii's big island. This is the look now at amateur video of lava from not kilo way off, oozing into the ocean. Researchers say hundreds of small earthquakes cause this. The lava has stopped flowing, but the area will remain closed. Scientists now examine the eruption.
