Hello, I am Melissa Long at the cnn center in Atlanta with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
Space shuttle Atlantis will not land as scheduled this afternoon in the first time interval because of weather concerns. The shuttle was scheduled to touch down at 1:55 in the afternoon Eastern Time. Now the earliest landing could take place 3:30 this afternoon. It is possible thunderstorms over Florida could delay the shuttle’s return for another day, even two. The Atlantis crew spent 13 days in space working on several projects on the International Space Station.
New developments now in the case of a missing Ohio mother. Volunteers are searching areas around Jessie Davis’s home. They are being helped by the same team that search for Nelly Holloway. She is the young woman who went missing in the Ruba. And Davis disappeared more than a week ago just days before she was to deliver a baby girl. The father of that unborn child as well as Davis's two-year-old son, is Canton police officer, Bobby Cutts. Investigators have searched his home twice but police say he is not a suspect.
A judge is expected to rule today on whether a tape of Osama Bin Laden interview will be shown at Jose Padilla's terror trial. He is one of the three people accused in a conspiracy to support Islamic extremists. The Bin Laden interview aired on cnn ten years ago. Prosecutors say they have FBI wiretaps in which two of the defendants talked about it. The defence said showing the tape would poison the jury and there is no evidence until ever sought.
Israel and the only Arab nations it has peace treaties with are united behind the government of Mahmoud Abbas. Leaders of Israel, Egypt, and Jordan will meet with the Palestinian President on Monday in a Red Sea resort. An Abbas aide says he will push for progress toward Palestinian statehood to counter the Hamas’s takeover of Gaza.
This is what is left of the City Hall of Sulaiman Bek in northern Iraq. A suicide bomber rammed an oil tanker loaded with explosives into that building. Sixteen people are dead. 75 are hurt. An Iraqi general says the target was probably the mayor who has lost five relatives to assassination already.
