From the cnn center in Atlanta, I'm Stacey Elgin. Thanks so much for checking in with us. Here's a look now at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
It's been one scare after another in London today. First, Scotland Yard defused a car bomb outside a nightclub overnight. Authorities say hundreds of people could have been killed.
"Scientific analysis will tell us what damage or injury could have been caused by this device. However, even at this stage, it is obvious that if the device had detonated, there could have been significant injury or loss of life."
Police say the investigation is continuing and they are taking all the necessary precautions.
Five US soldiers have been killed in a roadside bombing in Baghdad. That brings the number of US troops killed in Iraq this month to 99. Seven others were wounded in yesterday's attack which targeted their combat patrol. The US military says after the initial blast, the patrol also came under attack by rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. Just south of Baghdad, an oil pipeline was hit by a bomb attack. It triggered a huge fire.
As Congress heads to a Fourth of July break, Democratic leaders aren't getting a great report card from Americans. A new cnn opinion research corporation poll shows 49% disapprove of what Democratic leaders have done this year. That is up though from 44% in May. 57% of those polled said Democratic control of congress is good for the country, 31% disagree. And looking ahead at their choice for Congress next year, 53% said they would vote Democratic candidates in and 41% prefer Republicans.
Well, it wasn't a hotdog after all. An officer in Tucson, Arizona ran the plates of Oscar Mayer's Wienermobile. And the tag which reads "Y-U-M-M-Y" came back as stolen. Police grilled the driver and it turns out someone had stolen the Wienermobile's plates earlier this year. The police's database hadn't been updated. Now once everything was stringed out, the guys in the hotdog passed out winner whistles to the officers and even let them get their picture taken with the car.
Well the woman who became a key witness against convicted murder Scott Peterson has now opened her own day spa. Amber Frey's Escape Day Spa opened yesterday in a Fresno California suburb. Frey had an affair with Peterson in 2002 and later testified in his trial for the murder of his wife Laci and their unborn child.
And check out these adorable tiny red pandas. They are only 3 days old and already a huge hit at a zoo in Edmonton, Canada. Zoo officials say they are doing very well and for now, they're being kept away from their mother because she's apparently being a little too rough with the cubs. The baby pandas don't have names just yet. The zoo will though hold a naming contest for them this summer. How cute!
