Very good Sunday afternoon to you. I'm Veronica De La Cruz at the cnn Center in Atlanta. Let's take a look at what's happening right NOW IN THE NEWS.
Crews fighting a blaze in Utah are getting some help from air tankers but it's not enough to contain a wildfire that has spread over 160,000 acres. A heat wave that has blanketed the west isn't helping either. Fire officials say the blaze has traveled about 40 miles and across two counties in just 24 hours.
Last week's flooding and refinery oil spill in Kansas has left more than just muddy streets and damaged homes. Government officials are concerned about the contaminated water and residue left behind in Coffeyville. The EPA says floodwater samples from the area show high levels of bacteria, enough to cause stomachache, fever, vomiting and diarrhea. Meanwhile, the Coffeyville Refinery is facing a class action lawsuit because of the leak. A Wichita lawyer says the company had ample warning about the flood and should have shut down the facility sooner.
Now to Iraq. It's been a deadly weekend there. At least 27 people died in attacks in and around Baghdad today. 45 others were wounded. In the worst attack a bomb hit a truck carrying Iraqi army recruits killing 15.
And the death toll in that deadly bombing about 100 miles north of Baghdad has risen to 150. Yesterday a truck carrying two tons of explosives detonated in an outdoor market in a Northern Iraqi town. Authorities say close to 250 people were injured in that massive blast.
Britain's new Prime Minister Gordon Brown calling for an expanded European system to share information on potential terrorist threats. This comes more than a week after a string of terror plots targeted the country. But Admiral Alan West, Britain's new Security Chief, says while a new approach is critical, he warns the battle against terrorism could take up to 15 years. West says prevention and dealing with radicalization of young Muslims is his top priority.
Police in Manchester, New Hampshire are looking for a man they say robbed a bank yesterday in a very unusual disguise. Take a look at these bank surveillance camera shots . The man has leaves and branches taped to his face and body. Police say he demanded money from a teller and then he got out there. A police canine unit later searched the area but could not find him. Did they look in the bushes maybe?
