Hi there. I'm Virginia Cha at the cnn Center in Atlanta and here's a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
Devastation in Florida. Five people, two of them children, are now confirmed dead after a small airplane crashed into a neighborhood near Orlando. The pilot reported smoke in the cockpit while trying to land at Orlando Sanford International Airport. The plane slammed into a residential area just a few miles away. Two houses went up in flames. Authorities also report four people hospitalized with injuries.
President Bush is in Cleveland to deliver a speech on US efforts to bring stability to Iraq. Meanwhile the White House is trying to downplay expectations with the first congressionally mandated interim report on Iraq due out in the next few days.
Republican Senator John Mc Cain's presidential campaign is moving ahead without two of its leaders. Campaign manager Terry Nelson has stepped down, as has chief strategist John Weaver . Neither man is saying exactly why they are leaving the campaign which has struggled with fund-raising.
China has executed the former food and drug chief in the country's tainted product scandal. He was put to death for taking bribes to approve substandard medicines. Dozens of deaths in Panama last year are blamed on tainted medicine from China. Beijing acknowledged that it has been slow in tackling product safety.
For a fourth straight day Utah firefighters are struggling to contain a fire that has torched more than 300,000 acres. Right now the largest wildfire in Utah's history is about 10% contained, thanks to lower winds and new crews' moving in. The fire is burning about 120 miles south of Salt Lake City. So far, no evacuations have been needed and few structures are in danger.
