Hello everyone, happy Friday to you. I'm Christina Park at the cnn world headquarters in Atlanta with a look at what is happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

New intelligence suggests Al Qaeda is stepping up its efforts to get terror operatives into the US. That's according to a draft at the National Intelligence Estimate. Sources tell cnn the classified report will also say Al Qaeda has most of the resources it needs to launch another attack in the US.

A man suspected of killing six women at truck stops across the South won't be getting out of jail anytime soon. A judge denied bail for Bruce Mendenhall during an initial court appearance yesterday. Mendenhall faces murder charges in the shooting death of Sara Hulbert whose body was found last month at a Nashville truck stop. Police say when they questioned Mendenhall about Hulbert's death, he implicated himself in her murder as well as five other killings.

Louisiana Senator David Vitter will be back on the job next week. That's a word from fellow Republican Senator Jim DeMint. Vitter had been a
no-show on Capitol Hill since Monday, when he admitted his phone number was in the records of an escort service run by Deborah Palfrey, also known as the "D.C. Madam," Those records show Palfrey made five calls to Vitter while he was a House member. Two of them happened while roll-call votes were underway.

And former media tycoon Conrad Black was convicted of
mail fraud and obstruction of justice in Chicago. He was acquitted of racketeering and other counts, though. The former head of the Hollinger International newspaper empire was accused of swindling shareholders out of millions. He faces a long prison term as well as a one-million-dollar fine.

And it is the biggest
British Invasion since the Beatles. Hear the screaming? David, Posh and their kids crossed the pond as the Beckhams come to America. Beckham is the star addition to the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team. Reports put his salary at 32.5 million bucks over the next five years. The team will formally introduce its newest player this afternoon any moment now.

And those are your headlines making news this hour. Don't forget to stay with cnn for more on these stories and your other top headlines of the day. Thanks for watching.
