Officials have brought in heavy drilling equipment to help in the race to reach 6 Utah miners. They are still trapped more than 1500 feet down. Officials are now estimating it may take at least 3 days to reach the men if all goes well.
Earlier today, two suspects in a gruesome Connecticut home invasion appeared in court. Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes did not enter pleas.They face capital felony charges.Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty. Police say the pair held a family of four hostage for 4 hours then set their house on fire. The mother and two daughters were killed. The father survived. Several family members attended today's procedure.
Newark, New Jersey, police hope a 52,000-dollar reward will spark leads in the killings of 3 collage friends. They were shot and killed execution-style this weekend. A fourth was shot but survived. The mayor there says crimes are actually down in the city, but Newark's murder rate is still high. At least 60 people have been killed just this year.
The US-led coalition says troops fought off an attack on a military outpost in Southern Afghanistan. Officials say almost two dozen militants were killed in the fighting. The coalition says 4 Afghan girls were wounded by the insurgents' rocket-propelled grenades.
A federal judge has blocked a law in California that would have prevented the sale of violent video games to anyone under 18 years old. The judge ruled the law was unconstitutional. California Governer Arnold Schwarzenegger says he plans to appeal that decision.
