We begin with some breaking news out of Vancouver British Columbia Canada. Police there are saying two gunmen burst into a restaurant, opened fire, hitting 8 people. Two of them are dead. Canadian Broadcaster CTV is reporting a third person is in very serious condition right now. Five others were taken to the hospital. It happened at a restaurant called Fortune Happiness at 4:30 AM local time. An eyewitness told CTV one gunman entered through the front, the other through the back. Police say the victims appeared to have been targeted. And they described the scene as chaotic with overturned tables and bullet holes riddling the whole restaurant. I wanna get you now to Newark New Jersey where two suspects are in custody in the execution-style killings of three college students. 31-year-old Jose Carranza turned himself into police a short time ago. He faces murder, robbery, attempted murder and other charges. Police also arrested a 15-year-old boy last night. He, too, faces murder charges. Two men and a woman were fatally shot in the head at close range in Elementary school parking lot Saturday night. Newark's mayor says Carranza surrendered with his attorney at his side.
You may know in a few hours whether those miners trapped in a Utah coal mine are alive. Digging out the cave-in that traps them may take a week or more, but rescue crews have been drilling so-called ball holes since yesterday. The mine's owner says the ball holes should provide a way to communicate with the miners and then send them food and water. But he also warns that the first borehole might not come out where rescuers want.
A Montana Senator gives the firsthand look at wildfires across his state. Max Baucus is promising more federal money for firefighting efforts. Things are so bad at the Jocko Lakes fire near Seeley Lake. Nearly 17,000 acres have burned since Friday. It's just 10% contained and fire officials warn it could burn until mid September. Montana's largest fire is the Chippy Creak. It is so big and has charred nearly 85 square miles.
