Good afternoon, I'm Cory Kessler at the cnn.com newsroom in Atlanta. Here is a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Erin are blamed for some serious flooding in Oklahoma. Heavy rains from that system are flooding homes and roads there today. And thousands of people are without power.
Overnight flooding is blamed for at least four deaths in southeastern Minnesota. Authorities say all four were trapped in vehicles. The floodwaters also washed away roads and bridges in neighboring Wisconsin.
Jamaica is getting set for the onslaught. Hurricane Dean is closing in on the island after sweeping through the eastern Caribbean. Parts of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and the Texas Gulf Coast are also preparing for the storm's possible arrival.
In Utah there's more disappointing news in the painstaking effort to locate those six trapped miners. Crews drilled a fourth hole Saturday, lowered a microphone and banged on a drill bit, still heard no response from the miners. But mine operators and federal officials refused to give up, saying they will drill a fifth hole.
Two people have been arrested in suburban Washington accused in connection with the brutal triple murder in Newark, New Jersey. Federal authorities arrested Nicaraguan immigrant Rodolfo Godinez and his fifteen-year-old half brother Saturday in two communities near Washington. Their arrests bring the total number of suspects in custody in the case to five. Police have described Godinez as a key player in the killings. They are still looking for a sixth suspect.
Evangelist Billy Graham is resting in a North Carolina hospital today, who's hospitalized yesterday for intestinal bleeding. A Graham's spokesman says the 88-year-old is alert. Doctors say he is in fair condition and should be able to go home in a couple of days. Graham suffers from a variety of ailments including Parkinson's.
The Space Shuttle Endeavour undocked from the International Space Station and is making landing preparations a day early. NASA is bringing Endeavor home on Tuesday. That's because Hurricane Dean could force the evacuation of the Johnson Space Center if it comes ashore near Houston.
And there you have it. Those are all the headlines at this hour. For more on these stories or other news of the day, cnn is your source online, on TV, or when you are on the go. Thanks for watching.
