Hello and Good Monday to you. I'm Stacey Elgin at the cnn Center in Atlanta. Here is a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Hurricane Dean is now a dangerous Category 4 hurricane that could be headed for Mexico’s Ucatine Peninsular. The latest hurricane advisory has the storm's maximum sustained winds, reaching 150 miles an hour. Forecasters expect Dean to strengthen later today with the winds topping 155 miles an hour.

Two Virginia Tech students are still in the hospital after suffering carbon monoxide poisoning. The 19-year-olds were found unconscious in their beds along with three other roommates yesterday. Officials blame a faulty water-heater in their off-campus apartment complex. Now, two of the women are in critical condition. The others are stable and are expected to be released. Today marks the first day of the fall semester at the Virginia Tech campus. It comes four months after a student gunman killed 32 people, then shot and killed himself.

The families of six trapped miners in Utah are demanding rescue efforts be increased. They accused the mine's owners of abandoning their loved ones. Rescue operations inside the mine have been suspended since Thursday when a seismic event killed three rescuers and injured six others. Mine operators say they are no longer optimistic about the rescue efforts.

Rescue workers in China are trying to reach 181 men trapped in two flooded coal shafts in the eastern province of Shandong. Angry family members stormed the coal company offices Monday, demanding more timely updates on the status of rescue efforts there.

Well, the woman nicknamed "the Queen of mean" for her iron-fisted management style has died at the age of 87. Leona Helmsley's publicist says she died of heart failure at her summer home in Connecticut. She ran a multibillion-dollar real estate empire and went to prison for tax evasion after a 1989 trial. Leona Helmsley was 87 years old.
