And a very good Wednesday afternoon to you, I'm Veronica De La Cruz at the cnn center in Atlanta. Let's take a look at what is happening right NOW IN THE NEWS.

A double dose of Dean to tell you about. Hurricane Dean making landfall again on Mexico's eastern coast. The hurricane was recently upgraded in strength. Forecasters say its winds are now back up to 100 miles an hour. The storm is moving fast through the Bay of Campeche in the southern Gulf of Mexico. Dean slammed the Yucatan Peninsula as a rare Category 5 hurricane yesterday with 165-mile-an-hour winds. Thousands of people including tourists went to shelters to wait out the storm. The storm is blamed for at least nine deaths in its sweep through the eastern Caribbean.

Incessant rains have been inundating the Midwest and the Plain states. Twenty-two people are dead. Dozens of homes have been lost. In northern Ohio, one official describes it as the worst flooding in 30 years. Hundreds of people fled and homes since were filled with water. Cars became submerged along highways and main streets. And crops, already damaged by drought, have now been dealt a new blow. There was no mail delivery in Mansfield, Ohio. Postal trucks were flooded. Now receding waters that could fill up flood basins are causing more problems.

A tense situation is now over in Seattle. Colman Dock has reopened after a temporary evacuation. Ferry service was briefly suspended. Officials took action after the discovery of a suspicious package onboard a commuter ferry. Earlier this week, the FBI issued a bulletin for two suspicious-looking men spotted on Seattle area ferries.

And now to Iraq. Fourteen US soldiers are dead in a helicopter crash there. The military says the Black Hawk helicopter, like this one you are looking at, went down today in the northern part of the country. It was conducting night operations with another chopper. The military says the crash was apparently the result of mechanical problems and not an attack.

And a dramatic rescue to show you in Florida. A four-year-old girl lucky to be alive after nearly drowning in a sinking car. Police say the little girl's mother was strapping her into a car seat when her 13-year-old son turned the key in the ignition. The vehicle was already in gear and lunged forward right into a canal. The boy and his mother got out, but the little girl was trapped inside. Witnesses jumped in and pulled her out. The mother was given a ticket.

And those are your headlines at this hour. Stay with cnn for more on any of these stories as well as other news of the day. Thanks for watching.
