Hi there, I'm Virginia Cha at the cnn center in Atlanta. Here's a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Parts of the North Carolina coast are bracing for Sub-tropical Storm Gabrielle. Warnings are already in place. The outer banks are expected to bear the brunt of the storms' high winds, heavy rain and pounding surf.

President Bush is heading to Hawaii, fresh from the APEC gathering of Pacific Rim leaders in Australia. While Air Force One is being refueled in Hawaii, he'll meet with US military commanders. President Bush and other APEC leaders agreed on a new climate change program. It sets goals but is non-binding. Some experts say the program is too modest to be effective.

Meanwhile, President Bush says the new-taped message from Osama Bin Laden is a reminder that Al-Qaeda wants to drive the US out of Iraq. The tape came out yesterday. Now on it, the Al Qaeda leader calls the Iraq War quote "unjust" and urges Americans to embrace Islam as a way to end the war. Mr. Bush says Al Qaeda wants to use Iraq as a safe haven to launch attacks against the US.
The tape is a reminder about the dangerous world in which we live and it is a reminder that we must work together to protect our peoples against the extremists who murdered the innocent in order to achieve their political objectives.
On the tape, Bin Laden blames the Iraq War on capitalism and calls corporations the real terrorists.

A friend of Madeleine McCanns' parents say the couple wants to leave Portugal. And they want police there to clarify their legal status. Yesterday, Portuguese authorities declared both parents as suspects in the disappearance of their 4-year-old daughter. Authorities have not charged the couple with a crime though. The couple insist they had nothing to do with the little girl's disappearance.

Recordings of Luciano Pavarotti's booming voice filled the square outside his funeral in Modena, Italy today. An invitation-only service was held inside his hometown cathedral. Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli was among those who sang at the service. Since Pavarotti's death Thursday, more than 100,000 people have filed past his coffin. Today with covered in sunflowers and a stick-figure drawing signed by his 4-year-old daughter, Pavarotti will be buried at a ceremony near his villa where his parents are buried.

And those are the headlines at this hour. For more on all those stories and all your other news of the day, cnn is your source whether it's online, on TV or even when you are on the go.
