Hi there, I’m Virginia Cha at the cnn center in Atlanta. Here's a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

Kate and Gerry McCann are back home in Britain. They were allowed to return home despite being named the top suspects in the disappearance of their oldest daughter Madeleine. Gerry McCann says neither he nor his wife played a role in Madeleine's disappearance.
"We have played no part in the disappearance of our lovely daughter Madeleine."
Madeleine McCann vanished in May during the family's vacation in Portugal. Her parents were named suspects in the case last week.

The US military says it has killed the man believed to be behind a series of bombings that killed more than 400 civilians last month. Abu Muhammad al-Afri went by several aliases. The military says that he was killed during an air strike on Monday in northern Iraq.

The North Carolina coast is beginning to experience some of the most severe winds and rains associated with Tropical Storm Gabrielle. The eye of the storm came ashore near Cape Lookout, North Carolina just before noon. Its top winds were about 50 miles per hour when it made landfall. Gabrielle is predicted to move up the Carolina coast and then back out to sea.

In Maryland, an 18-year-old college student missing for a week has been found. Julian McCormick was apparently trapped in his upside-down car at the bottom of a ravine in suburban Washington. He managed to survive without food or water. A passing motorist found him yesterday on the side of the road. Police say despite some injuries and dehydration, he is going to be OK.

The Democratic presidential candidates are getting together at the University of Miami for their latest debate. But this one will be a little different. Tonight's affair will be broadcast(ed) on Univision entirely in Spanish. The questions will be posted in Spanish. The candidates will answer in English and the responses will be translated.

Those are the headlines for this hour. Thanks for joining us. For more on those stories and all your other news of the day, cnn is your source online, on TV even when you are on the go.
