A source close to the investigation says O. J. Simpson has been arrested by Las Vegas police in connection with an alleged armed robbery in Las Vegas. No word yet on the charges now. Earlier this weekend police seized two guns and arrested a man who was believed to be with Simpson during the alleged robbery. Charges against that man include two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon. Police are investigating allegations that Simpson and other men went into a room at a hotel casino on Thursday and took some sports memorabilia. Simpson says he was just getting back items that belong to him.
87 people confirmed dead in today's crash of a Thai airliner on the resort island of Phuket. More than 40 people survived. The plane skidded off a runway in heavy rains, split in two and burst into flames.
We could find out who President Bush will nominate as the new Attorney General as early as this week. Word is the president is leaning toward Michael Mukasey. Two sources familiar with the search tell cnn, the former Federal Judge is President Bush's likely choice. Mukasey was nominated to the bench by President Reagan. He presided over several terrorism-related cases while on the federal bench assigned to Manhattan.
The former Federal Reserve Chairman isn't mincing words. Allen Greenspan's new book comes out Monday. In it, the Greenspan says the Iraq war is (quote) "largely about oil". And he also calls government spending under President Bush out of control.
An out of control wildfire is chasing thousands of people from their homes in southern California. a state of emergency is now in effect for San Bernardino county. More than 15, 000 acres have been burned. So far, the blaze is only 12% contained.
Contract talks have resumed between General Motors and the United Autoworkers. Progress was reported in yesterday's negotiations. But there are still several stumbling blocks. The talks are considered crucial for the survival of GM, Ford and Chrysler. All are fighting to close a labor cost gap with their Japanese competitors.
