Good afternoon, I'm Melissa Long at the cnn Center here in Atlanta with a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.

California Department of Justice investigators have served several search warrants in connection with the death of Anna Nicole Smith. Smith died in Florida of an accidental drug overdose in February. The warrants were served at her doctor's homes and businesses. Investigators say at this time no arrests are expected.

A Pennsylvania teenager accused of planning a Columbine-style attack has been ordered to remain in juvenile detention. The teen's mom has been charged for allegedly buying her son several firearms and bomb-making equipment. His father may also face charges. Authorities say they found a rifle, air guns and several hand grenades at the teen's home during a search on Wednesday. School officials say a tip from another teen led them to the plot. A judge says he will decide later whether to charge the fourteen-year-old as an adult.

A veteran Congressman from Ohio is retiring. Republican Regula, Ralph Regula is expected to announce today that he is leaving the House at the end of this term in Jan. 09. He is 82 years old and has served 18 terms. He will be the eleventh House Republican who is not seeking re-election.

He has won an Emmy. His movie won an Oscar. And now Al Gore can add a Nobel Peace Prize to that amazing list. The former Vice President shares the prize with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for their efforts to raise awareness about climate change and for laying the foundation to do something about it.

And there are concerns today about high levels of lead in lipstick. A consumer group called Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found lead in half of the thirty-three brand names of lipstick tested including those made by L'Oreal, Cover Girl and Christian Dior. There is no federal standard for acceptable lead levels in lipstick.
