A manhunt in Florida is over now. The suspected killer of a Broward County sheriff's deputy is in custody. Police say the man was being transported to court when he overpowered the deputy, took his gun, shot him and then dumped him in a parking lot. The deputy died in a hospital a short time later. The transport van was found this morning in a parking lot in a residential area.
And the last of 6 black Louisiana teenagers to be arraigned in the beating of a white high school student has pleaded not guilty to reduced charges. Bryant Purvis had originally been charged with attempted second-degree murder. In a brief hearing this morning, that was reduced to second-degree aggravated battery and conspiracy. His trial is now set for next March. Purvis and the other teenagers known as the "Jena 6" were arrested after an attack on a white student last December.
And there has been a school shooting in southern Finland. 8 people are dead, the 18-year-old suspect in custody in critical condition. Police say that he opened fire at the high school and then shot himself. The school principal is among those killed. Finnish media is reporting that someone posted a message 2 weeks ago on YouTube, warning of a bloodbath at that school. It is believed to be the first school shooting in Finland's history.
French President Nicola Sarkozy is getting a guided tour of George Washington's home from President Bush. Sarkozy is on his first state visit to the US. In an address to a joint meeting of Congress, he emphasized the historical connections between the 2 countries. And President Sarkozy calls the relationship between the US and France "always beautiful".
Touchdown of the space shuttle Discovery after a 15-day mission at the International Space Station. That mission was one for the record books with an uNPRecedented emergency spacewalk to repair a ripped solar wing.
