Hello I’m Melissa Long here at the cnn Center in Atlanta with a look at what’s happening NOW IN THE NEWS on this Tuesday.

Five days after a devastating cyclone the government of Bangladesh is issuing a plea for more foreign aid. More than 3100 people are confirmed dead. But local relief groups fear that the number could eventually climb as high as 10000. Dozens of villagers remain cut off from supplies by food excuse me by the flood waters and heavy damage. Some survivors of the hardest hit areas say that people there haven’t had any food in days.

The Pakistani government says more than 3000 people detained under the state of emergency have been released. Yet witnesses say some 150 journalists were arrested recently in Karachi after clashes with police.

A new UN report says the number of HIV cases worldwide has declined. The United Nations's program on HIV and AIDS estimates there are 6 million fewer people infected with the virus that causes AIDS this year than last.

Thanksgiving travel got off to a rough start but according to reports the situation is not as bad today as Monday. The FAA says bad weather causes flight delays in Atlanta, Newark, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia yesterday. Fog is being reported in Los Angeles International today but it is expected to lift soon.

After all the recent recalls, parents are about to get some sound advice for buying the best holiday gifts. Today we are getting shopping advice from the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the US Public Interest Research Group. That’s US PIRG.
