Well, hello to you from the cnn center in Atlanta, I'm Veronica De La Cruz. Thank you so much for checking in with us today. Let's take a look at what is happening right NOW IN THE NEWS.

President Bush is getting a first-hand look at the tornado damaging Greensburg Kansas. As much as 95% of the town was destroyed by Friday' s twister. Greensburg's mayor says the town can and will rebuild with help from the federal government.

In the Midwest, flooding is the problem. The Missouri River is over its banks and places. Places like Big Lake in northwest Missouri are under water. Hundreds of people have been forced to higher ground. Missouri's governor has declared a state of emergency. Well, Iowa's governor has declared 5 counties state disaster areas because of all of the flooding.

The official start of the Atlanta hurricane season isn't for another 3 weeks. But tropical activity has already kicked off in the Atlantic basin. The season's 1st storm Andrea formed today off the coast to the Carolinas. Andrea is a subtropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour.

During a surprise visit to Baghdad, Vice President Dick Cheney met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to discuss steps in securing Iraq. Both men admitted their concerns over the slow pace of reducing violence in the country. The two also say both the US and Iraqi government remain committed to working together toward a solution. Baghdad's green zone was rocked by a mortar attack as Cheney visited the city. The vice president was a safe distance from the attack and was not harmed.

Afghan officials say at least 21 civilians were killed in an air strike by US forces aimed at militants. It happened in Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan. The provincial governor says women and children were among the dead. A US military spokesman says he doesn't have any reports of civilian deaths. He did say significant members of militants were killed in the fighting.

Britain's Queen Elisabeth is thanking the United States for its help in bringing peace in Northern Ireland. The remarks came in the last formal event of her 6-day state visit to the United States. The Queen remarked on the friendship between the US and Britain and thanked Americans for a warm welcome. She helped to mark the 400th anniversary of the British settlement in Jamestown, Virginia and attended the Kentucky Derby.
