Southwest China's Yunnan province plans to build a 260-hectare "canteen" for elephants, offering bamboo and bananas to animals in order to ease human-elephant conflict.

The "canteen" is planned to be built in southern Yunnan, home to 38 wild Asian elephants.

According to the local forestry bureau, total investment for the "canteen" will amount to 2.6 million yuan.

In the meantime, the district will impose stricter punishments on people who hunt and sell wild animals illegally.
