Teachers from Shanghai have given lectures in a primary school in London. It's part of a cultural exchange program between teachers in Shanghai and the U.K.
Lin Lei, a math teacher from a renowned primary school in Shanghai, gave her first lecture, and found the students were very self-confident and willing to learn. She was impressed by the students' enthusiasm for interaction with the teacher in class. She especially appreciated their attitude of not caring too much about their own performance during the interaction.
However, she commented that British students' calculation methods are very different from what she and her colleagues use back home; and the children's calculation speed is slower.
The students in the school were very interested in the new calculation method she taught them, and hoped they can learn more.
Lin and other teachers went to Britain last month for the 4-week exchange program. In November last year, the first batch of 30 math teachers from Shanghai traveled to the U.K. for the program.
Meanwhile, British secondary school teachers were sent to Shanghai, with the next group planning to follow in September.
