China has launched its first five-year plan to protect and promote traditional Chinese medicine.
The plan was released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It will be effective until 2020.
According to the plan, wild herbs will be protected; a fourth national census of resources will be conducted; a network for monitoring resources will be established; innovation on technology, production and development of medicine will be advanced; and the quality of medicine will be guaranteed.
The plan requires better laws, regulations and rules to protect and improve the medicine, and asks for more fiscal and financial support for the industry.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology hopes that with the plan, an orderly competitive market environment should be established.

Almost 14,000 accounts on major Chinese websites have been closed or blocked because of illegal practices, including blackmail and deleting posts for profit.
The five websites, sina.com.cn, sohu.com, qq.com, 163.com and baidu.com, have removed 17,000 posts containing libel, pornography, rumors and other illegal information.
A statement by the Cyberspace Administration says China launched the campaign targeting online information violations including fake news, paid deletion of posts, and blackmail since January; and the websites have been cooperating with authorities to investigate violations.
The statement also noted that the public has been cooperative in reporting violations and promised rewards for providing tip offs.
