Tapescripts:
The Forty-second yearly Grammy Awards will presented next week, on February 23rd. What are teh Grammies? Shirley Griffith has the answer.

The national Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences presents the Grammy Awards every year. The group represents recording artists, song writers and technicians. The award honors excellent musical recordings and those who create them.

The Grammy Award itself is a small statue. It is shaped like the early record player called a gramophone. The word "Grammy" is a short way of saying gramophone.

Ten thousand members of the Academy vote to choose the best work of the year in areas including rock music, classical music and rap music. Ninety-eight awards will be presented next week at ceremonies in Los Angeles, California.

One of the major awards is called "The Record of the Year". Five songs are nominated. One is "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys.

Another is "Believes" sung by Cher.

A third nominated song is by the group called TLC. It is called "No Scrubs".

The forth nominated song is "Smooth" by Santana. And the fifth nominated song for the Record of the Year Grammy was recorded by Ricky Martin. We leave you now with that song "La Vida Loca".
