VOA常速英语:暖心：美国社区组织与难民共进晚餐，努力打破种族界限

There is a melting pot of foods from different cultures representing the face of America.The host of this dinner is an organization called Trybe that celebrates different cultural and religious traditions within a community.
多样的文化汇聚出食物的大熔炉，各种类的食物也代表了美国的面孔。一个名为Trybe的组织举办了此次晚宴，希望和大家一起庆祝社区内不同的文化和宗教传统。

They are preparing for the guests of honor.Among them is Mohamad Naser Trad, a Syrian refugee who just turned 19, it’s his first birthday in America.
他们正在为迎接贵宾做准备。Mohamad Naser Trad就是其中一员，刚刚满19岁的Trad是一名叙利亚难民。这也是他在美国过的第一个生日。

“It’s a big step to come here, and it’s a big difference because it’s different culture, so I hope to adapt here very quick.”
“来到美国相当于往前迈进了一大步，但这里的环境跟我以前差别很大，毕竟两边文化是有差异的，所以我希望自己能尽快适应现在的生活。”

Trad arrived in the US six months ago.He feels that he can’t completely adapt until he speaks English fluently (And thank you very much to inviting us here…),which he’s trying hard to learn in college.
Trad来美国已经六个月了。他觉得在把英语说流利之前，自己都没有办法完全适应现在的日子（真的很谢谢大家能邀请我们来到这里…），所以他在学校一直都特别努力地学习英语。

But he is adapting in other ways.
不过他现在正在用其他方式来适应。

“I try to make some grilled cheese, some quesadillas some stuff, yeah, I learned some, so I try it at home.”
“我自己试着做了一些烤奶酪和玉米饼什么的，就这样，我学了一下，然后就自己在家动手做了。”

Trad’s sister, Laila is 15 and having a rough time fitting in at school.
Trad有个15岁的妹妹叫Laila，Laila在适应新学校的过程中可吃了不少苦头。

“Some of them they talk to me like, ‘Can I see your hair? Why [are] you with [wear] this [hijab]?’Like this, yeah.And sometimes they bother me like, ‘ You’re a terrorist,’ or something like this, but I don’t listen to them.”
“有些人会跟我说一些，比如‘我能不能看看你的头发？你为什么要戴头巾啊？’就是诸如此类的话。还有的时候他们会缠着我说，‘你就是个恐怖分子。’或者这之类的。不过他们说的话我一般都不听。”

“It’s hard for her and for me because just [they are] taking the news from the TV.They don’t know the truth.”
“这个过程不管是对她还是对我都挺难，因为他们全是从电视上看到这些消息的。他们不知道真相到底如何。”

Syrian refugees are barred from entering the US for 120 days under a new executive order signed on Monday by President Donald Trump.
叙利亚难民被禁止在120天之内踏入美国边境，这是根据唐纳德.特朗普总统于周一最新签署的新行政命令实施的。

“He judge one people that a Syrian can be a terrorist.Maybe anyone can be. I mean, it’s not… you can’t judge anyone by just his nationality,”
“就因为来自叙利亚，总统就断定这个人是恐怖分子。任何人都可以是恐怖分子啊。我的意思是说，并不是……你不能就凭一个人的国籍来判断他的好坏。”

but Trad’s critique of President Donald Trump stopped there.
不过Trad对特朗普的批判就仅限于此了。

“It’s the will of God, so I’m happy because he chose him.”
“因为这是上帝的旨意，所以我还是很高兴他选择了特朗普。”

Trad said so far his experience in the US has been very different than the White House rhetoric.
Trad表示，他在美国的经历与白宫的论调十分不同。

“A lot of Americans welcome us and so nice to us, and they want to help us.”
“有很多美国人都非常欢迎我们，他们对我们很友善，也一直想帮助我们。”

The aim is that these kinds of interactions continue long past the dinners in all the communities where refugees are trying to be settled and hoping to celebrate many more birthdays in the US.
我们的目的是希望晚餐结束之后，这样的互动仍能够在各个社区延续下去，因为难民们都努力要定居在这里，并且期望日后能在美国庆祝更多个生日。
