娱乐英语新闻:Brittany Murphy did not die of alcoholism, drug abuse: coroner

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Brittany Murphy, who died last December at the age of 32, passed away from a combination of pneumonia, amenia and presciption medication and no signs of alcohol or drug abuse were found in her body, the Los Angeles Coroner's office said Thursday.

In the 84-page report, the coroner's office said that hydrocodone and acetaminophen -- both components of Vicodin -- were present in her bloodstream, as well as chemicals that are active ingredients in drugstore medicine and some inhalers. This is solid enough to dispel the gossip that the famous topliner abused alcohol and illegal drugs, or was dangerously underweight.

The pattern of the elevated levels of drugs in her blood "suggest treatment of symptoms of a cold or other respiratory infection," the report reads. "There is no history of alcohol or drug abuse" and "the body appears well developed, normally muscular and slim but not excessively thin."

The "The White Hotel" and "Clueless" actress was found unconscious in her Hollywood Hills home on Dec. 20. In addition to these two productions, the Atlanta-born Murphy co-starred in "8 Mile" with Eminem, and "Girl, Interrupted," with Angelina Jolie.

Murphy's first Hollywood role, at age 14, was as the star of the series Drexel's Class.
