LOS ANGELES, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The federal prosecutors have found grounds to extradite former television producer Bruce Beresford-Redman to Mexico to stand trial for charges over his alleged murder of his wife when they were vacationing there last year, the authorities said on Monday.

The U.S. Attorney's Office has filed a memorandum summarizing evidence against the former reality show "Survivor" producer, roughly two months before an extradition hearing scheduled to be held in Los Angeles federal court.

"The facts summarized above and set forth in the extradition request submitted by Mexico establish probable cause to believe that the fugitive committed the crime of aggravated homicide," federal prosecutors said in the new document.

The evidence was previously compiled in extradition papers filed by the Mexican authorities, the prosecutors said.

A Mexican state attorney general filed murder charges against Beresford-Redman, 39, for allegedly killing his wife Monica Beresford-Redman when the couple, whose marriage had been struggling, were vacationing with their two children at a posh hotel in Cancun in early April 2010. Monica was reported to have been strangled and her body dumped in a sewer near where the couple was staying.

According to extradition papers, Monica had been struck on the head with a bat-like object, her face had been pummeled and her body had trauma consistent with being thrown against the hotel-room Jacuzzi. Blood spatter was also found throughout the bedroom the couple used to stay.

Beresford-Redman was detained as a suspect in Monica's death and was later released. But he was called by local authorities as a man of interest and ordered to stay in the country waiting for the end of the investigation into his wife's death.

The producer returned to Los Angeles in late May and spent time with his two young children at their home in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

He was arrested by U.S. marshals and the FBI at his home several months later and has remained in federal custody pending the May 16 hearing. The authorities will determine if the enough evidence exists for the extradition of the defendant.
