LOS ANGELES, July 18 (Xinhua) -- "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen, who was ousted from the shooting scene in early March, will return to act in a news series called "Anger Management," the actor and production team said on Monday.

Sheen, who has been engaged in a nationwide comedy tour after his March 7 oust by CBS and Warner Bros. Television, will not only play the title role, a mild-mannered man who has to undergo anger-management treatment to deal with anger issues of his own, but also own some stakes as well.

"I chose 'Anger Management' because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept," Sheen said.

"It also provides me with real ownership in the series, a certain amount of creative control and the chance to be back in business with one of my favorite movie producers of all time, Joe Roth."

Sheen's comeback show, based on a 2003 film starring Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson, will be produced by Lionsgate subsidiary Debmar-Mercury. It will be produced by Joe Roth who had worked with Sheen on films including "Major League," "Young Guns" and "Three Musketeers."

"Who better than Charlie Sheen to tackle 'Anger Management,'" Roth said. "With Charlie's incredible talent and comedic gifts, he remains the leading man of TV sitcoms. I'm excited to collaborate with him once again."

It is still not known which network will air the show.

The troubled actor's popularity has faded quickly since February and March, when his public attack on Warner Bros. drew millions of television viewers and Twitter followers. His "Violent Torpedo of Truth" comedy tour turned out to be a disaster. The actor was even booed for the show's lack of cohesion and its star's lack of focus.
