体坛英语新闻:Brazil judo seeks domination at Rio 2016
RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Days after claiming its first Olympic judo gold medal in 20 years, Brazil has set itself the bold task of being the most successful nation in the sport at the Rio 2016 Games.
Sarah Menezes' victory over Romania's defending Olympic champion Alina Dumitru in the 48kg class was Brazil's first judo gold medal since Rogerio Sampaio's triumph at the 1992 Barcelona Games.
Bronze medals to Felipe Kitadai (60kg), Mayra Aguiar (78kg) and Rafael Silva (+100kg) ensured Brazil's best ever Olympic performance in the sport.
"The four medals were won by athletes that are very young which bodes well for 2016," Brazil's team coordinator Ney Wilson said on Friday.
"Our objective is for Brazil to be the most successful Judo nation at the Rio Games. We are going to work as hard as we can to achieve that."
Brazil finished sixth on the judo medal table in London behind Russia, France, South Korea, Japan and Cuba.
