体坛英语新闻:Torres: Scoring record not on mind
FORTALEZA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Spain striker Fernando Torres insists personal accolades are not on his mind after he moved to within a goal of becoming the most prolific scorer in Confederations Cup history on Sunday.
Despite netting four goals in Spain's 10-0 whitewash of Tahiti last Thursday, Torres started on the bench in La Roja's 3-0 victory over Nigeria at the Castelao stadium on Sunday
But he replaced Roberto Soldado on the hour and struck two minutes later with a spearing header after a precise Pedro cross.
"Obviously it would be nice to have the record but it's not an objective that I have set out to achieve," the 29-year-old Chelsea forward said.
"The goal is to be champions. Over the past few years we have been very successful but we still haven't won this competition. There is no shortage of motivation for us and we think we are on the right track."
Two-time FIFA world player of the year Ronaldinho and former Mexico striker Cuauhtemoc Blanco are currently the highest Confederations Cup goal scorers with 9 between them.
Torres has eight, with his five from this edition coming after the three he scored in South Africa in 2009.
