体坛英语新闻:Uruguaya's Ghiggia invited to 2014 World Cup draw
MONTEVIDEO, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Uruguayan former soccer player Alcides Ghiggia, world champion in 1950, on Friday confirmed he was invited by FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) to take part in the draw for Brazil 2014 World Cup.
"I received a phone call to invite me. I have not said yes or no," Ghiggia, 86, told local radio station Sport.
Ghiggia, who scored the victory goal in the final match against Brazil (2-1) in 1950, said that he has 30 days to accept or reject the invitation.
Ghiggia, who had a car accident last year where he broke several bones, said that he is not sure because "I use a cane and I do not like them to see me like this."
Ghiggia, the last survivor of the Uruguayan championship-winner team, said that he prefers not to talk much about the remembrance of the great deed.
Uruguay won the 1950 World Cup in a game played in Rio de Janeiro's Marcana stadium.
