MANCHESTER, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Manchester City thrashed local rival Man United 4-1 to win the season's first derby on Sunday.

Sergio Aguero's brace from either half, Yaya Toure's tap-in and Samir Nasri's volley completed the host's rout of the defending champion after just 50 minutes.

Wayne Rooney, the most dangerous man of the visitors throughout the lop-sided clash, scored a stunning free-kick with three minutes left to become the leading striker in the derby history with 11 goals, offering the consolation for the new boss David Moyes.

"We didn't start the game well," said Moyes, who replaced Alex Ferguson as the Red Devils' manager in summer.

"It is one game. There are plenty more to come and plenty of time to fix it," he added.

Moyes's counterpart, Manuel Pellegrini, who also guided his side at first time for the Manchester Derby, was delighted to see the Blue Moon show the Premier League title ambition after an overwhelming show, cheering the fanatic home fans at the fully-packed Etihad Stadium.

"It was a very important result, normally you don't expect to win 4-1 against Manchester United but the most important thing was the way we played - I am very happy," said the Chilean boss in the post-match press conference.

"Winning the way we won today will give us a lot of confidence. Always winning against Manchester United and the way we won could have an important impact," he added, hoping to repeat Man City's title-win triumph in 2011-12 season.

The victory moved Man City to the third place of the table, trailing Arsenal and Tottenham with two points less.

The North London rivals both clinched victories on Sunday to climb to the top with the same 12 points after five games.

Mesut Ozil, who made his first home show, was related to Arsenal's each goal and boosted his side to a convincing 3-1 victory over Stoke. Aaron Ramsey's seventh goal in eight games, Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna's headed goals helped Gunners grab the seventh victory in a row.

Paulinho's last-gasp winner in stoppage-time helped the visiting side Tottenham beat Cardiff 1-0.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace was defeated 2-0 at home by Swansea inspired by Michu and Nathan Dyer's goals in each half.
