RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazil international goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni says he will decide within three weeks whether to extend his professional career to a 23rd season.

The Sao Paulo veteran will be 41 in January and has previously declared his intention to retire at the end of the current Campeonato Brasileiro season in December.

But he now admits he could be tempted to play on.

"We are thinking about it and looking at it," Ceni said after Sao Paulo's 2-1 weekend victory over Portuguesa.

"We are going to see what is best for everybody. It's something that we have to decide in the next 15 to 20 days. There is no getting away from it due to the need to prepare for next year."

Ceni is an icon in Brazilian football, his shot-saving prowess matched by an unparalleled goalscoring record.

The Guinness Book of Records officially recognizes Ceni as the highest scoring keeper in history with 112 goals in 1012 first-team matches for Sao Paulo.

Having missed four consecutive penalties earlier this year, Ceni has recaptured his best form in recent weeks as Sao Paulo vie for a top-four league finish.

"I used to think that every 90 minutes you can write a new page in your life," Ceni said. "But now I have learnt that every 90 minutes you can write your life's story. That's due to the passion involved in football."

Ceni, a two-time Copa Libertadores winner and Brazil's backup goalkeeper at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, represented the Selecao 17 times from 1997 to 2006.
