体坛英语新闻:China win four titles atop medal standing at trampoline worlds

SOFIA, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- China topped the medal table at the FIG Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships, which ended here on Sunday.

Chinese won four gold, four silver and two bronze medals, followed by Britain's three gold, one silver, four bronze medals. The United States finished third with three gold and one silver medals.

Lu Shanzhen, deputy director of gymnastics administrative center of China, told Xinhua that Chinese team did okay in this world championships though some of the young athletes did not perform as expected.

"We decided to give more opportunities to the young athletes, that's for the development in the long term," said Lu.

"Countries like Britain, USA, Russia, Japan and Canada performed really well this time, and the competition grows in the sphere of trampoline and tumbling in the world."

Jia Fangfang won the fourth title for China at the last day of the competition. At women's tumbling individual final, she gained 70.700 points, followed by Lucie Colebeck of Britain in 67.400 points, and Chen Lingxi of China in 67.000.

"I was in good condition today. But in the final, my first routine was not as good as my previous execution, and my landing in the second routine also trembles a little. So I need to keep on working hard when I come back," said Jia.

Zhong Xingping and Li Dan added two more medals for China at women's individual trampoline competition. After a very tough battle, Zhong placed second with 56.165 points, and Li grabbed the bronze with 56.145 points, while Rosannagh Maclennan of Canada won the gold with 56.285 points.

In the other finals on Sunday, Mikhail Zalomin of Russia won the gold medal at men's double mini-trampoline, British Kristof Willerton won the men's tumbling competition, Kristle Lowell of the United States snatched the gold at women's double mini-trampoline. At men's synchronized trampoline, the gold went to Japan.
