体坛英语新闻:Ghanaian government, GFA to issue joint response to FIFA
ACCRA, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The Ghanaian government is considering issuing a joint response with its Football Association (GFA) to FIFA on the establishment of a Commission of Enquiry to look into the country' s recent World Cup flop, Mahama Ayariga, minister of Youth and Sports, said here on Friday.
The Commission was set up by Ayariga to look into activities that led to Ghana' s poor performance at the recent 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
World football governing body FIFA wrote to the GFA over the establishment and composition of the Commission of Enquiry by the government.
However, Ayariga said in a statement that he had discussed with the GFA on this arrangement which would help FIFA to know the opinion of both the GFA and the Ghanaian government.
The Black Stars, making a third straight World Cup appearance, failed to make it past the first round after they picked up a point from the three group games played against the United States, Germany and Portugal.
Ghana's World Cup campaign was dogged by controversies after the team nearly boycotted the game against Portugal over unpaid appearance fees, leading to the ouster of two players, Sulley Ali Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng, from the team's camp for misconduct.
The Commission, headed by Justice Senyo Dzamefe, an Appeals Court Judge, was instituted to enquire into matters relating to the team' s preparation for the tournament and possible lapses which might have caused their early exit.
It will also enquire into matters relating to the treatment of Ghanaian football fans who were sent to support the Black Stars and advise government on the financing of activities of the Black Stars and other national teams, among other matters, of public interest concerning the organization of Ghana' s Black Stars' participation in the tournament.
The Ghana FA has reiterated its readiness to cooperate with any commission of enquiry into happenings at the World Cup provided it is done according to the prevailing laws of FIFA.
