LISBON, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Sporting beat Penafiel 4-0 on Saturday in the seventh round of the Portuguese league at the Municipal 25 de Abril Stadium.

Sporting dominated the game from the start but struggled against a strong defensive side.

Penafiel forward Helder Guedes shocked their rivals in the 17th minute when his effort bounced off Sporting defender Naby Sarr and almost made it inside the net.

Slimani scored in the 69th with a header, and again in the 71st following a pass by Cedric.

Fredy Montero scored in the 82nd with a right-footed effort and Nani scored three minutes later following a cross by Montero.

Sporting won the last four Portuguese league matches it played in Penafiel. The last time the Lions played in Penafiel for the league was in 2005 and they beat their rivals 1-0.

Sporting was without Brazilian defender Mauricio due to an injury he picked up on Tuesday against Chelsea in the Champions league.

They now sit third place in the Portuguese league with 13 points, managing to get three points closer to league leaders Benfica.
