国际英语新闻:5 killed after vehicle plunges into river in Indian-controlled Kashmir
SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, April 19 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed Saturday after a passenger vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a river in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.
The accident took place in mountainous Kishtwar district, about 284 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian- controlled Kashmir.
"In a tragic road accident today a Sumo vehicle carrying passengers skidded off the road and plunged into Chenab river in Kishtwar," said a police officer posted at police control room Jammu. "So far five bodies have been retrieved from the river but the vehicle is missing."
The official said police teams were carrying out rescue operation.
Deadly road accidents are common in this mountainous region often caused by overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
