国际英语新闻:Gunmen injure senior journalist in Pakistan's Karachi
ISLAMABAD, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's veteran journalist Hamid Mir was injured by unknown gunmen in the southern port city of Karachi on Saturday, local media reported.
Geo TV, where Mir is working as an anchor, said that the journalist was on his way to office from airport when he was shot by people on two motorbikes.
Mir was admitted to Agha Khan Hospital for treatment, however, his condition was not known yet.
Police said that Mir got at least two bullet injuries in the attack.
Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain condemned the attack and directed the hospital to provide best possible medical treatment to Mir.
Mir, who started journalism in 1987, interviewed many politicians including Condoleezz Rice, Tony Blair and Hillary Clinton.
Mir was arrested by Hezbullah in July 2006 for trying to visit the scene of Israeli air raid on Beirut, but was later set free after Hezbullah assured that he was not an Israeli spy. In 2012, Mir was awarded with Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan's second highest civil prize, by then president Asif Zardari.
Mir got international recognition when he went to eastern Afghanistan to investigate the escape of late Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden from Tora Bora mountain in December 2001. Mir visited the cave where Ladin sheltered from the American bombing.
Pakistan is seen as one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists, media watchdog Reporters Without Borders ( RSF) said in a report in January 2014.
