国际英语新闻:Indonesia calls for solution to end violations against children in armed conflict
UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will take "clear and constructive" approach to find the best tailor-made solution to end and prevent grave violations against children in each conflict situation, a diplomat from the country said on Friday.
Speaking at a ministerial open debate on "children and armed conflict," Muhsin Syihab, deputy permanent representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations said that "we are deeply concerned by the scale and severity of violations in 2018, notably the record high number of casualties as a result of killing and maiming, continued fighting between parties and new conflict dynamics."
"Child protection has been an integral part of our policy and sets the tone for our stance in condemning six grave violations against children in armed conflict," he said.
It is very important to reintegrate all children formerly associated with armed groups to reunify with their families or caregivers and regain their normal life and to intensify ways of Security Council in addressing root causes of conflict as well as preventing former child soldiers from re-recruitment.
Mental health and psychosocial supports are essential towards an effective reintegration program, he said.
It is also important to have the strategic partnerships between national authorities and personnel on the ground - consisting of peacekeepers and humanitarian workers - to multiply child-protection efforts, he said, adding that these partnerships are of crucial importance to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
For peacekeepers, child-protection capacity is crucial to conduct dialogue on action plans, release and reintegrate children and strengthen monitoring mechanism, he said.
