国际英语新闻:Tanzanian president urges civic leaders to support transformation agenda
DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian President John Magufuli on Monday urged civic leaders to support his transformation agenda aimed at making the east African nation flourishing.
Speaking at a meeting with the civic leaders at State House in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam that was broadcast live by state-run Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation, Magufuli said people across the country should know what the government was doing.
Since he came into power in November 2015, President Magufuli hit the ground running when he started to implement grand projects aimed at enabling the country attain a middle income status by 2025.
The projects were the construction of standard gauge railway, the hydropower project in the Selous Game Reserve expected to produce 2,115 megawatts, the purchase of brand new planes for the national airline, expansion of airports and ports and road infrastructure, among others.
The head of state told the civic leaders, mostly ward executive officers from across the country, that it was their role to ensure that the country remained both safe and prosperous.
However, Magufuli warned them against engaging in unethical practices, saying doing so not only tainted their individual images but also that of the nation.
"I understand that some of you are ethical and some are not. There are those who take part in corrupt and unethical practices especially on issues involving land as well as in conflicts that involve farmers and pastoralists," he observed.
Magufuli has in a recent past held meetings with the regional commissioners, district commissioners, regional administrative secretaries, district executive secretaries and ambassadors representing Tanzania in different parts of the word. Enditem
