外国人眼中的《丑女无敌》

《丑女无敌》无疑是中国版的《Ugly girl》。剧中人物丑女孩“林无敌”戴着碗底一样厚的眼镜片，说话时会露出戴着矫正套的牙齿。这样的形象在我们常人眼里至少应该不算美女。

可是，或许中外的眼光真的不一样。根据ABC在纽约街头的随机访问，大多数美国人认为“林无敌”这个形象并不丑陋，相反还很可爱。还有人说她不够肥。

The most boast about new sid comedy in china might be familiar to American audiences. It's Ugly Betty in Chinese. The show was a hit but online it's taking a beating, as it turns out Ugly Rudy is simply too pretty. Thousands of Internet posts on Chinese websites saying things like "she is not fat enough". One comment said "Rudy is in sort of all ugly girls".

The original show which started in Columbia was created to demonstrate that inner beauty outstrips the appearance, but critics say using a pretty actress defeats the point.

The question is "is beauty culturally relative". Well, we came here to new York time square with a picture of the supposed Ugly Rudy to find out. And the reaction was unanimous：
"she's not ugly, that picture"
"She's too pretty, but I think the ugly betty in America is not very ugly, either."

Bingo! Ever seen in America forever out of character, she is adorable.

Several countries had adopted their own version of Ugly Betty. The common thing, all the Ugly bettys have four eyes. But take away the ugly accessory and the frumpy clothing, and the Ugly Betty in Turkey, India and Brazil are all stunners. So maybe everyone is being a little too hard on the poor pretty actress that plays Rudy, she did get on ten ponds in the role, and put on a ten...yes .in china, a ten is considered unattractive. Clearly beauty and as well as ugliness are in the eyes of the bowl holder.
