迪克牛仔的音乐传奇人生
Last month Taiwan singer Dick and Cowboy had his solo concert at Beijing Workers' Gymnasium. He performed new arrangements of his hit songs "Let the Love Be", "Do You Know I'm Waiting For You?" and "Will You Love Me Again"... which caused the packed house to sing along. He also showcased five new songs including "Who Do You Love Tomorrow" and "Dark Dark Sky".
Few people knows his real name, but besides Dick and Cowboy, he also has another nickname, Old Daddy. He started his on-stage career when he was 25 years old. And it was not until he was 40 that he finally got his big break. He always says that it took a thousand frustrations to make today's Dick and Cowboy.
His solo concerts in Asia are sold out within a couple of hours, and his songs are some of the top singles for karaoke. His success has branded him a"Taiwan Legend" by the local entertainment industry.
Leaving his home town of Kaohsiung in Southern Taiwan in 1998, Dick and Cowboy took ten years to fulfill his musical dreams. For the first years, he was famous for making cover songs, but he gradually had composers and lyricists writing songs for him. He thinks he is much like the sand blowing in the wind, never stopping... just continuing on.
In 1999, Dick and Cowboy released his first Mandarin album "Forget Me or Forget Him". The title song and another hit from the album "Thirty Thousand Feet" were chart toppers for that year and Dick and Cowboy has been a phenomenon ever since.
In January 2000, he released the album "I'm the One You Love No More", and started his pop rock whirlwind tour across Asia. He went to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and the Chinese mainland, showcasing his explosive live performance.
After a hiatus of a couple of years, Dick and Cowboy released an album titled "Sand Blowing in the Wind" in 2007. That was the tenth year the singer had used the name "Dick and Cowboy". Also the recording is a milestone in his music evolution.
It was in the winter 1999 that Dick and Cowboy visited Beijing for the first time. And ten years later, he walked onto the Workers' Gym's stage and spread his love and gratitude to the fans.
He had some trying times as a construction worker when he was young. But now at the age of 50, he has experienced the tears and laughter of life and is singing about the significance of life with his husky and impressive voice.
