弗格森将退休 26年“红魔传奇”载入史册
The end of an era. Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary manager of Manchester United, is set to call it a career. Ferguson announced on Wednesday that he will retire at the end of the season, bringing to a close the most succesful coaching career in English football history. After over 26 years on the sidelines, Ferguson will now transition into his next role as Director and Ambassador for Man U.
Ferguson took over as manager of the red devils in 1986, winning numerous titles along the way and helping the careers of some of football’s biggest stars, while also turning the team into a global brand.
Rumours began circulating late Tuesday that he would step down. These rumours were confimed earlier today as the 71-year-old released a statement in which he said, "The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time."
"It was important to me to leave an organization in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so," he said.
Ferguson is the most succesful manager in British football history. Under his watch, Manchester United was able to capture two Champions League crowns, the UEFA Cup, an astonishing 13 Premiership titles, which includes this year’s success. He also guided Man U to five FA Cups, and four League Cups.
