第七届亚洲冬季运动会开幕
The seventh Asian Winter Games have begun, with a spectacular opening ceremony in Kazakhstan's two main cities of Astana and Almaty.
The opening ceremony was held at a newly-built 30,000-seat arena in the capital of Astana. The curtain-raising show, began with a dramatised performance based on traditional Kazakh epic poems - accompanied by a group of ethnic drummers.
More than 1,100 competitors, from 27 countries and regions will contest 65 titles in 11 categories until February 6th. It 's unlikely Kazakhstan will head the medal table, in front of the region's two sporting giants, China and South Korea. But Kazakh sports authorities, say they're hoping to win up to 25 medals and at least the third-place this year. The last Asian Winter Games were held in 2007 at Changchun in China.
