印尼爪哇岛发生6.7级地震

A strong earthquake has jolted the south coast of Indonesia's Java Island.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was 318 kilometers off southern Java, just 24 kilometers beneath the ocean floor which they say struck at a magnitude 6.7.

The tremor was strongly felt in the capital Jakarta. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

Thousands of people in the town of Cilacap, on south Java, poured into the streets and ran to high ground. Indonesian authorities, issued a tsunami warning after the jolt, which sent thousands of residents fleeing their homes in panic.

Ninety minutes later, when the threat of a tsunami had passed, they were told to go home.
