The Beijing South Railway Station sees around fifty thousand passengers departing every day. To cope with the change, it has borrowed experience from Guangzhou and Chengdu rail stations, where the real name ticketing system went through a pilot run last year.

Xu Shenggang, Chief of Beijing South Railway Station said "Starting from mid May, we began to announce the policy through billboards, broadcasts, and LCD screens. We held a training session for five hundred salespeople, opened more booths and installed self-help vending machines. So far the policy has been well received and carried out. "

Anxiety and impatience permeates this long queue of passengers, who forget or lose their ID cards, and had to get a temporary one from a window opened by local police authorities. Many of them have to wait longer than their journey time before making a purchase.

Passenger said "I was not aware of this new policy, and left my ID at home."

Passenger said "I have waited for an hour already to get the temporary ID. I am going to Tianjin, the journey only takes about half an hour."

Railway officials believe that the new policy is crucial to creating a more open and equal environment for ordinary passengers. However the current policy does not apply for slow-moving trains, whose tickets are particularly hard to get during peak times.
