As one of the world's largest energy consumers, China faces the urgent task of creating a sustainable energy structure.

Coal currently plays a dominant part in China's energy consumption, making up 70 percent of its fuel consumption. However in developed countries, it only accounts for 30 percent. It is 40% higher than the world's average. In sharp contrast, nuclear power accounts for less than 1 percent of total consumption, 5 percent lower than the world's average.
当前，煤炭在中国能源消耗量中处于主导地位，占到了燃料消耗量的70%。然而，在发展中国家，只占了30%。这比世界平均水平高了40%。形成鲜明对比的是，核电在总消耗量中占了不到1%，比世界平均水平低了5个百分点。

While natural gas, accounts for nearly 4 percent of consumption, around a fifth lower than the world's average. Oil accounts for less than 20 percent of consumption, 16 percent less than the global average. But, oil imports exceeded 200-million tons for the first time last year, signaling a dependency rate of more than 50 percent.
