央行:多数居民称物价可接受

First up, a survey conducted by China's central bank suggests more Chinese believe consumer prices in the country are acceptable.

The fourth quarter survey also shows, less residents are willing to purchase homes, compared to the previous period.

The index for residents’ satisfaction of prices in the current quarter stands at 16.5 percent, which is around 2 percentage points higher compared to the previous quarter. Even though the majority of surveyed residents believe prices are still high, that portion decreased over 3 percent. And fewer residents expect prices to rise in the first quarter of 2012.

Analysts say, the results indicate the central bank may consider consumer prices as a less important factor when deciding its monetary policy.

In terms of residents’ income, the index stood at 50.9 percent, which suggests Chinese are not very satisfied with their earnings. But there has been some improvement in residents’ confidence about future income.

Meanwhile, more than 80 percent of urban residents say they prefer to save money, under current price pressures, interest rates and their income level. As far as investment is concerned, real estate is no longer the number one option, as more are in favor of funds and wealth management products.

When asked about housing prices, nearly 73 percent say real estate is still unacceptably expensive in China. But that’s declined about 3 percent compared to the previous quarter. Just 14 percent of surveyed residents are willing to purchase a home in the next three months. That’s very close to the historical low of 13.2 percent, which was recorded in the third quarter of 2008. Analysts say that indicates a strong wait-and-see attitude in the housing market, flowing from to the government’s housing market curbing policy.
