Now for a heroic and moving story about a student who lost his legs to save a passenger intending to commit suicide. Li Boya is a freshman at Zhengzhou Railway School in Henan Province. He was serving an internship at a Hebei railway station.

On the evening of July the 9th, he spotted a passenger trying to commit suicide. He rushed to save the man, but lost both his legs in the process. Now, after extensive medical care, Li Boya is in stable condition.

Li Boya, only twenty years old, has lost his legs.

He comes from a village in Central China’s Henan Province.

Last year, Li Boya entered a railway police college in the provincial capital, Zhengzhou.

His dream was to become a railway policeman. In summer, he began an intership at a local railway station in neighboring Hebei Province

Life took a fateful turn on July 9th.

He saw a passenger trying to commit suicide.

Pan liqiang, policeman, Changli railway station, Hebei, said, "Li Boya jumped off the platform immediately after he found the passenger trying to commit suicide. But a train was coming toward them, while the passenger struggled to throw him off. It was too late. The train soon ran over them."

When the train had gone, so were Li Boya’s legs. Doctors decided to attach his severed left leg to the right stump.

The ten-hour surgery was successful. Two weeks later, Li has passed the most dangerous period.

"I like the profession, I still dream of becoming a qualified railway policeman."

Back in his hometown, news of Li Boya’s heroic behavior has spread.

His grandma hopes to meet her beloved grandson soon, for he had promised to see her after the internship.

Li Boya's Grandma, said, "The only thing I am now thinking about is having my grandson coming back to me after recovery. I will be satisfied a lot if I can see him."

Li Boya’s treatment has entered the second phase. He needs time to learn how to use his transplanted leg.

The hospital has set up a 24-HOUR extensive care team with more than 40 doctors.

His parents are with him. Together with a doctor, they give him psychological support.

Everyone on the team is working to help Li Boya’s dream of becoming a railway policeman come true.
