兰州“新区”将会带来什么?

The fifth state-level new area in Lanzhou will lead to an environmentally sustainable economy based on energy-saving industries. It’s China’s fifth state-level new area following Shanghai’s Pudong New Area, Tianjin’s Binhai New Area, Chongqing’s Liangjiang New Area and Zhoushan Islands New Area in Zhejiang Province. But what does it actually mean for the area?

Lanzhou New Area is located in Qinwangchuan Basin in the north of the provincial capital Lanzhou, covering more than 800 square kilometers. It’s also near Xining city in Qinghai province and Yinchuan city of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, a key location.

It is an essential communication and logistics center linking the province with Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Qinghai Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

According to the State Council, Lanzhou New Area is expected to focus on developing sectors such as advanced equipment manufacturing, strategic emerging industries, petrochemical industries, new energy and materials and modern agriculture.

It’s also a key demonstration zone for saving resources and protecting the environment during urbanization.

Lanzhou New Area is also an experimental zone for ecological construction. Lanzhou New Area has a population of 100 thousand and has so far attracted 90 investment projects. It worth of around 71 billion yuan or around 11 billion US dollars.

The new area aims to achieve a GDP of 50 billion yuan by 2015, 100 billion yuan by 2020 and 270 billion yuan by 2030.
