中国传统节气“白露”吃什么?

White Dew, a Chinese solar term, is being used to describe the chilling weather as the summer winds to a close. Those who wake up earlier enough can get a glimpse of dew that forms on the grass every morning. In Shanghai, locals are marking the day with some special delicacies.

In a surburb of Shanghai, residents celebrate "White Dew" by indulging three delicacies, the longan fruit, the white silkie chicken, and some white wine to top it off.

Sui Jinhua, Resident of Jinshan District, Shanghai, said, "We prepare a feast for the White Dew. The white silkie chicken is a must."

The tradition of eating the "three whites" boosts sales of longan at the market.

Market Vendor said, "Normally we sell a few kilograms of Longan, but now we are selling nearing 10 kilos."

White Dew marks the stark drop in temperature. The three whites are all "warm" foods, meaning it’s good for one’s health at this time of year.

Cao Gang, Doctor of Community Medical Center, said, "It’s autumn and it’s turning cold. Warm foods like longan are good for the body."

Hopefully, enjoying a fruit known for its tropical taste will help people cherish the few reminaing warm days before winter sets in.
